Kaala is a Sanskrit word with two meanings - one is dark-skinned and the other signifies the time, death, destiny or fate. Also, the word is often referred to Yama, the god of death as per the Hindu scriptures.
It appears like Rajinikanth might have the quality of Yama and create the fear of death in the minds of those, who are engaged in unlawful activities. Karikaalan was a popular Chola king. The movie, set in Mumbai, is said to be about a gangster.
Kaala Karikaalan marks the second union of Pa Ranjith with Rajinikantha after Kabali. The upcoming movie will be dubbed into Telugu, Hindi and Malayalam apart from a few foreign languages.
The flick has Santhosh Narayanan's music, Sreekar Prasad's editing and T Ramalingam's art direction. Huma Qureshi will be seen as the female lead, while Samuthirakani is set to enact an important role in the flick made on the banner of WunderBar Films.
Earlier, there were speculations that the movie was based on the life of late Mumbai don Haji Mastan Mirza. But the makers had denied the rumours.
The movie is set in Mumbai and the shooting will begin from 28 May.
