"Supergirl" has gone on a mid-season break soon after Astra (Laura Benanti) and her army launched an attack against Supergirl's (Melissa Benoist) own National City. When the CBS show returns with Season 1 Episode 9, things are going to get very violent and tense, but "Blood Bond" brings with it a ray of hope for romance in Kara's life as well.
Much to the delight of "Glee" fans, the role of this potential love interest will be played by Blake Jenner, Melissa Benoist's real-life husband. The couple had bagged their big roles in Ryan Murphy's hit show "Glee" and acted together in 2012, when the show revamped the whole cast to make the high-school experience seem real.
Although their characters Marley and Ryder did not end up together in the Fox show, Benoist and Jenner did fall in love, and got married in March 2015. Now, their fans will get to see them play potential love interests in "Supergirl".
This, however, means adding another member to the hot mess that is the love sandwich featuring Jimmy (Mehcad Brooks) and Winn (Jeremy Jordan). He will enter "Supergirl" as Adam Foster, the estranged son of Kara's boss Cat (Calista Flockhart).
In Episode 8, "Hostile Takeover", his existence was revealed by Cat to Kara when her privacy was threatened by hackers. She confessed to Kara that although she loves her son very much, she decided it would in his best interests that he be raised by his father.
Although the revelation allowed Kara to come to terms with her own mother's decision to send her all the way to Earth alone, Kara helped Cat see the situation from a child's perspective. We can safely assume their talk has a lot to do with his arrival at National City.
It would be interesting to see Cat's reaction to the relationship, especially now that she knows her lowly assistant is also Supergirl.
