Diljit Dosanjh's much-awaited Punjabi film Super Singh, which opened in theatres on Friday, June 16, has received a massive response from fans on its first day at the box office and registered a record opening.
Amid the huge hype, Super Singh has been released in around 350 screens in several parts of the country. It had been making quite a lot of buzz among the Punjabi audience across the country as it has the star of Punjabi film industry Diljit. His entry in Bollywood cinema has further increased his popularity.
According to a Box Office Collection India report, Super Singh collected Rs 2.90 crore at the domestic box office on its first day. The comedy adventurous film witnessed more than 75 percent occupancy in Punjab, Delhi and NCR.
With such humongous collection, Super Singh has emerged as the highest opener ever in Punjabi film industry, shattering the record of Diljit's previous film Sardaar Ji 2 (Rs 2.75 crores).
The regional film is expected to witness growth in the first week and break a few more records, although it will face a major obstacle on first Sunday -- the ICC Champions Trophy final match between India and Pakistan.
Also starring Sonam Bajwa, Super Singh is based on Punjabi villager Lovely Singh (Diljit), who moves to Canada for better prospects but soon realises that he has been blessed with super powers when some goons try to rob him of his belongings. Using his special powers, Lovely eradicates hatred and spreads love and happiness.
