Apple's iPhone 7 event had plenty of surprises, but one of them was just too interesting to miss – the launch of Super Mario Run for iPhone and iPad users. But the details on one of the most iconic games of all times were kept afloat while Apple continued to talk about its new iPhones.
The wait is finally over. Nintendo has confirmed that Super Mario Run for iPhones and iPads around the world will be released on December 15, bringing an early Christmas present to the fans of the adventures of the mustached plumber.
"The wait is almost over for a Super Mario game that can be played on mobile devices," said Doug Bowser, Nintendo of America's Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. "Developed under the direction of Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto, Super Mario Run brings a new take on the series' beloved action-platforming gameplay to iPhone and iPad for the first time."
Super Mario Run is being launched exclusively on iOS platform, supporting iPhones, iPads and iPod touch devices running iOS version 8.0 or above. The game will be available on Apple App Store on December 15 across 151 countries and regions, which include Argentina, Belgium, Canada, Finland, France, Hong Kong, India, Japan, Russia, Taiwan, United Kingdom, United States and others.
Super Mario Run is going to be a paid game and it will cost $9.99 to unlock access to the complete version. Initially, users will be allowed to try elements of the game's three modes for free.
The controls of the game are pretty simple. Mario will run forward on his own, while players must tap on the screen to "avoid enemies, pull off stylish moves, collect coins and reach the flagpole to complete courses." Go, save the queen.
As for Android smartphone users, the game is expected to be released next year, Nintendo has confirmed.
