Sunny Leone has appeared in the list of BBC 100 most influential women 2016. She is the only Bollywood actress to have made it to the list.
Apart from Sunny, four Indian women's name came up in the list of BBC 100 most influential women of 2016.
Although there are a number of popular Bollywood actresses who have made a mark in the West as well like Priyanka Chopra and Deepika Padukone, it is Sunny who has made it to the list. Formerly a porn star, Sunny has featured in a number of Hindi films. She is also known for her love for animals.
The publication quoted an inspirational statement from each of the women who appeared in the list. The quote against Sunny's name said, "It's your right as a woman to follow your dreams and it's your responsibility to make them come true."
Another Indian women who appeared in the list of 100 is 20-year-old Gouri Chindarkar. She is known for being the first Indian girl to experience a unique learning process called "school in the cloud." Her quote is "Knowledge makes you more confident."
The third most influential Indian woman is Mallika Srinivasan. This 57-year-old lady is known as the "tractor queen" of India. CEO of farm equipment company, Mallika is known for her entrepreneur skills. Her quote is "What is important for all women is that you have to be – in content, presentation, character – one notch clearly above the men."
Actor and writer Neha Singh also is another Indian to have made it to the list. This 34-year-old lady founded a movement to motivate women to stand against harassment. Her best line is "I want to be as free as any man in the country. Why should we settle for anything else?"
And the final name in the list of 100 is 105-year-old environmentalist, Saalumarada Thimmakka. She has set an example by planting 8,000 trees in 80 years after she was ridiculed by rural society for not being able to have children.
