We have often seen the lead characters of TV shows such as Sex and the City and Gossip Girl, to name a few, summer in the Hamptons, and the trend is catching up fast with a lot of people. More and more vacationers are choosing the Hamptons as their go-to destination when it comes to sunning themselves on the beach.

So now that summer is here and the beaches in Hamptons are bound to be flooded with people, it's time for everyone to get hold of some sunscreen and enjoy the sun. While that is pretty much all we can think of when it comes to the Hamptons – the sun and the sand – it also is the perfect time for some to get a vasectomy. Yes, you heard it right, that is exactly what we said!

More and more bachelors are reportedly getting a vasectomy ahead of their vacations to the Hamptons to avoid falling into the trap of gold diggers. For instance, Scott, a male model in his 30s, says that now that he got a vasectomy, he will have no issues hooking up with different women.

"I had a vasectomy a few months ago. Having a house in the Hamptons and being fairly well-off, I've encountered some problems — women try to get pregnant," the New York Post quoted Scott as saying. The model, who describes himself as "Tarzan with light eyes" says he has met several women who have lied to him about being on birth control, whereas all they want to do is get pregnant and trap someone with money.

"It's a trick. [They say] 'I love you, [we] don't need a condom,'" he added. Scott revealed that he hooks up with about 10 women each summer and cannot afford to take the risk of fathering a child.

Not just financial support, some women reportedly even have their sights set on a green card.

While Scott is taking the precautions required, Alex, a 37-year-old from Downtown Brooklyn once almost fell into the trap. Alex and his spouse of 10 years are in an open relationship and he often hooks up with women at the Hamptons. But he received the much-dreaded call last year when a Russian model called him claiming she was pregnant.

"Could her motive have been to shake me down for child support? I don't know. But it didn't work, thank God," the Post quoted Alex. "It was a wake-up call. It's not like an STD you can treat. It's a kid." However, he never heard from her again.

Meanwhile, urologists in the area have revealed that the number of single men walking in for a vasectomy indeed goes up before the summer. "They don't want to be in the situation of being accused of fathering an unwanted baby," Dr. Joseph Alukal, a urologist at NYU told the Post. "That's their fear — being told you're paying for this kid until it's [an adult]."

"This extortion happens all the time. Women come after them. [They get pregnant and] want a ransom payment," explained Dr. David Shusterman, another urologist. "Some guys do an analysis of the cost — for three days of discomfort [after a vasectomy], it's worth millions of dollars to them. I never see a poor guy [asking] for a vasectomy. Rich guys are a population that's abused a lot."

Now more and more men are opting to undergo the procedure and John, a 34-year-old bachelor has an interesting take on it. "I'm a single guy doing well — more girls come along." The vasectomy, he says, "is insurance."
