When Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic played against each other at the Wimbledon 2013 final on Sunday, the focus was on British Prime Minister David Cameron, Spice Girls member Victoria Beckham and other big personalities who watched the epic match. But among everbody at the stands, it was Kim Sears and Jelena Ristic, girlfriends of the players on the court, who hogged the limelight.
Even as Andy Murray and Novak Djokovic were getting ready to battle it out on court for the Wimbledon title, their girlfriends Kim Sears and Jelena Ristic and were spotted shaking hands. They looked gorgeous but a little tense ahead of the match.
Kim Sears received overwhelming attention on Sunday, as her boyfriend Murray ended the 77-year-long wait for a British to win Wimbledon title. He eventually won 6-4 7-5 6-4 and ended the long drought, and cameras were straight away directed to his girlfriend.
Sears, 25, and Murray, 26, have been together for many years now. The current world No.2 took Sears to his game for the first time at SAP Open in San Jose, California in 2006. He eventually won the title and said later that he would take her more often to his matches.
He kept his words as Sears, daughter of tennis coach Nigel Sears, has been seen cheering for him in almost all his major matches.
Is Sears the lucky charm of Murray? We can't rule that out!
The other girl, who hogged the limelight on Sunday was Jelena Ristic. The 27-year-old swimwear model features in almost all matches of her boyfriend Novak Djokovic, who is currently ranked No.1 in world tennis. They have been dating since 2005.
Ristic, who became the new face of lingerie and swimwear brand Figleaves, runs Novak Djokovic Foundation that helps disadvantaged children in Serbia. She said that it is not easy to hide her emotions while watching her boyfriend play, but she makes sure that he is not distracted.
"You can get very passionate when watching your boyfriend from the players' box. We just want them to be happy. You don't want to see them in pain. If they are not happy, neither are you. But I have to be careful as I don't want to get too emotional and distract Novak. It's about what the guys want. We don't want them to see us get emotional," The Daily Mail quoted Ristic as saying.
"My job is to keep Novak calm and relaxed before his matches. We are emotional partners. The emotional support we give to each other is very important. It's the same for me as well. He is very supportive and encouraging of the work that I do."
Do you think Ristic is the women behind the 26-year-old world No.1's success?
Despite the on-court rivalry between their boyfriends, Kim Sears and Jelena Ristic share good rapport. They were even spotted interacting and shaking hands at Wimbledon 2013 final.
"I've met Kim and we speak whenever we see each other, but we are so busy so I haven't seen that much of her. Her and Andy are a really nice, pleasant couple. There is no negative energy between Novak and Andy. It is a gentleman's sport and they are both gentlemen," Ristic told The Daily Mail.
