Residents of Glenridding in Cumbria, north west England, have been hit with another round of flooding. The flooding on 10 December was the second time the Glenridding villages river bhas roke its banks.
Edwin Holme, station manager for the Cumbria Fire and Rescue Service, said his team was attempting to give some reassurance and check the people of Glenridding are safe.
The flood waters brought disbelief to a town already trying to clean up from the prior weekends flood. Flood waters could be seen rushing through shops and floating away debris as emergency workers attempted to mend the river bank with heavy machinery and shovel loaders.
Heartbreaking, one local man said. We spent the last three or four days digging out shops and helping all the locals just for all this to happen again.
A woman described getting a phone call from a local shopkeeper in the middle of the night.
Were all expecting, you know we need to get the shovels out and and the mops out, she said. And we just walked down and its just, I just broke into tears.
Authorities said the flood waters had begun to recede later in the day, but remained extremely dangerous.
