British multi-instrumentalist, songwriter and record producer Steven Wilson, who completed his world tour on May 7, 2016, announced another tour for the year on his Facebook page recently. This edition of his tour will start in July 2016 and will see him perform at venues across Europe, India, Australia and New Zealand. (See the full schedule here)
Although the dates for his concerts in India have not been finalised yet, Wilson did confirm that he will make an appearance in the country in October 2016. However, this will not be Wilson's first concert appearance in India. He had performed in the country as the frontman of progressive rock giants Porcupine Tree at Mood Indigo, IIT Bombay's annual cultural festival, in 2009.
Talking about his recently concluded world tour, the Grammy-nominated musician said: "Personal highlights for me were playing Bulgaria and Turkey for the very first time in my career, and sold out shows at stunning venues in 2 countries that are very close to my heart, Greece and Israel. The Vienna show was also a very emotional experience, since we heard about Prince's passing only moments before going on stage, and played a version of Sign 'O' the Times (which I originally recorded for my Cover Version series) as a tribute to him at most of the shows that followed."
Wilson, who will celebrate his 50th birthday next year, also announced a new solo album, which will be due for release next year. He said: "I have started to develop some ideas for the next album, which I plan to record towards the end of this year. As trying not to repeat myself continues to be very important to me I want to take a distinctly different approach with this one, but I'm not entirely sure myself in what direction things will move at the moment."
The upcoming record will be Wilson's fifth solo effort, after last year's "Hand Cannot Erase," a conceptual album that was successful critically as well as commercially.
