Starbucks is getting more tech savvy, by reaching out to its customers through the most convenient way of mobile apps. It has just updated its iOS app to include Apple Pay support and added calorie information on the menu items.
Starbucks was listed as a partner for Apple's unique mobile payment system when it was launched in October last year. Since then, there has been no support for Apple Pay but the latest update changes that. Apple Pay support in the coffee chain's iOS app means it can be only used to reload Starbucks Card.
However, even with Apple Pay, customers will not be able to make in-store payments using iPhone and it remains unknown whether the NFC-assisted payment method will be added in the future.
Users can take advantage of the Touch ID to swiftly add funds to their balance, without having to enter password or credit card information, Forbes reported. Apple Pay app already stores all the necessary information.
The Starbucks iOS app version 3.2.1 started rolling out to users on Wednesday. It includes overall enhancements with various bug fixes. Apple iPhone users can also use the app to browse different food items on the Starbucks menu, including essential information about calorie content. This is quite helpful for those who are health-conscious.
"By popular demand, the menu is enhanced. When you browse our menu you'll now find additional calorie information on menu items. We've also enhanced the experience for Mobile Order & Pay in Portland," the changelog reads.
Apple iPhone users can download the app from iTunes for free while existing users can just update the app to enjoy the latest features.
