Two weeks after the first trailer of 'Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens' was released, names of some of the characters have been revealed.
The trailer gave a glimpse of some of the new characters, and now a few of them have been named.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the film's co-writer and director J.J. Abrams and President of Lucasfilm, Kathleen Kennedy, decided to reveal the names of only some of their new characters that we saw in the 88-second clip.
Right now, all that the two revealed was what parts John Boyega, Daisy Ridley and Oscar Isaac as well as the shadowy figure in the snow are playing.
It has been learnt that Isaac, who portrays an X-Wing pilot, is 'Poe Dameron' in the film. Meanwhile, British actress Daisy Ridley, who is seen starting and riding a gravity-defying motorbike in the trailer, is playing a character simply known as 'Rey'. On the other hand, another British actor who is seen in the beginning of the trailer, John Boyga, plays 'Finn'.
The names of the characters were revealed in a unique and retro manner, through mock trading cards. This is a tribute to the popular collectible cards of 1977 featuring important characters as well as scenes that were on sale when the original movie was released.
In addition to these three characters, the ball-like robot that we saw in the trailer and which was dubbed as "ball droid" also has a name like R2-D2 and C-3PO. Its alphanumeric name is BB-8.
After seeing the trailer, fans were most eager to know the identity of the mysterious cloaked figure that was seen treading carefully through the snow in a rural area, holding a lightsaber. His name is 'Kylo Ren'.
It is being speculated that the character plays the role of the main villain in "The Force Awakens", but as to who is playing the character is not known as yet.
According to some reports, "Girls" actor Adam Driver is to play Kylo Ren. The names of the rest of the new actors have not been revealed as yet.
The new cast also includes Domhnall Gleeson, Max von Sydow, Game of Thrones star Gwendoline Christie, Andy Serkis and Oscar winner Lupito N'yongo. Serkis narrated the trailer.
Some old characters like Han Solo played by Harrison Ford, Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia and Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker will reprise their roles in Episode VII.
