Srinivasa Kalyanam has made an average collection at the worldwide box office in the four-day extended first weekend and has ended up becoming another dud for actor Nithiin.
The movie was widely promoted and the makers ensured good publicity for the film before its release. The movie was expected to make a decent collection at the box office and give a much-needed hit to Nithiin, who has suffered a big setback with back-to-back flops like Lie and Chal Mohan Ranga.
However, the Satish Vegesna-directed family drama opened to average response in the morning shows on Thursday and the mixed word of mouth took a toll on its collection in the afternoon and evening shows. Srinivasa Kalyanam collected Rs 5.50 crore gross at the worldwide box office on the first day and earned Rs 3.18 crore for its distributors.
The word of mouth further affected its business on the following days, leaving its makers shocked. Srinivasa Kalyanam has reportedly collected Rs 17.20 crore gross at the worldwide box office on the four-day-extended first weekend and earned Rs 9.15 crore for its distributors, who have shelled out Rs 27 crore on its theatrical rights.
Since it was a four-day weekend, Srinivasa Kalyanam was expected to recover over 60 percent of the distributors' investments. The movie, however, ended up getting half of it as the earnings are 33.88 percent of the investments. The film will clash with other Independence Day releases, which will take a toll on its collection. The flick is likely to incur huge losses to its distributors.
Dil Raju, who is known for churning out back-to-back hits, was expected to score a hit for Nithiin with Srinivasa Kalyanam. The producer made all possible attempts towards this goal, but he failed to achieve it. Raju could not save the actor from scoring his hat-trick flop movie.
