Couple of days after Telugu film "Srimanthudu" completed 50 days, superstar Mahesh Babu has announced his decision to adopt Siddhapuram, a village in Kottur mandal, Mahabubnagar district of Telangana.
"Srimanthudu", a family drama, deals with the concept of giving back to the society. The movie has impressed audience, critics and politicians alike. Released in theatres on 7 August, it has done fantastic collection at the box office and became the second all-time highest grosser movie after SS Rajamouli's "Baahubali - the Beginning".
The Koratala Siva-directed movie completed a successful run of 50 days in theatres on 25 September. Mahesh Babu took to his Twitter page on Monday morning to thank his fans for the huge success and also made the announcement about adopting Siddhapuram.
The actor tweeted, "Thanking each and everyone for ur unconditional love and support . Love you all :) After much thought @KTRTRS garu and myself have chosen to adopt Siddhapuram village of Kottur mandal in Mahabubnagar district :) Looking forward to a constructive and meaningful journey ahead :)"
K Taraka Rama Rao, the Minister for Panchayatraj and Rural Development, Telangana, was impressed with the theme of the movie and praised Mahesh Babu for doing the film. On 12 August, the Minister had tweeted, "On the eve of Gram Jyothi, Srimanthudu is a fab movie to catch: focus on rural development & social responsibility. Great job@urstrulyMahesh."
On 19 August, Mahesh Babu revealed that he has adopted his father's native. He had "The #SmartVillage initiative lead by @ncbn garu prompted me to adopt my own village, Burripalem. This would not have happened without the support of my brother-in-law, @jaygalla, MP from Guntur."
On the same day, Mahesh Babu also revealed that K Taraka Rama Rao congratulated him on the success of "Srimanthudu". The actor decided to adopt a village from the most backward district of Mahbubnagar following the minister's suggestion.
Mahesh Babu had tweeted, "Very Humbled after receiving a congratulatory call on the success of Srimanthudu from Minister PR&RD @KTRTRS. He suggested I adopt a village from the most backward district of Mahbubnagar as part of their #GramaJyothi initiative. I said YES :) more details to be announced soon.."
