After an exciting World Cup, cricket lovers are treated again with the much-awaited Indian Premier League (IPL).
However, the tournament has landed into many controversies over the years. Here is a list of some of the top controversies that tainted the glamorous IPL.
Sreesanth gets slapped
In 2008, during the first season of IPL in Mohali, Mumbai Indians skipper Harbhajan Singh allegedly slapped Kings XI Punjab bowler Sreesanth. The latter was snapped crying after the incident and this made rounds for long.
SRK banned to enter Wankhede
In IPL 2013, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan got into a spat with a security guard at Wankhede Stadium after KKR-MI match. As a result, Maharashtra Cricket Association had banned SRK from entering the stadium for the next five years.
Ganguly out of Team KKR
When Sourav Ganguly was left out from KKR team after the third season, it created waves all over. SRK never talked about this decision and KKR had to continue without the Bengal Tiger.
Spot-fixing
The biggest controversy over IPL was the spot-fixing that ruined many careers including that of Sreesanth. Actor Vindu Dara Singh was also arrested for alleged links with bookies.
Termination of Kochi Tuskers
Kochi Tuskers of Kerala came in and went out in no time. After Shashi Tharoor's resignation and Lalit Modi's removal, Kochi Tuskers could not make it to their second outing.
Lalit Modi sacked
Lalit Modi, who made IPL successful, was dismissed as IPL Commissioner minutes before 2010 IPL final ceremony. He was sacked for alleged misappropriation of funds.
