Singer and dancer, Zendaya of "Replay" fame has confirmed she will be joining the cast of Marvel Cinematic Universe's (MCU) upcoming "Spider-Man" reboot.
As reported by Comic Book, the Disney Channel star revealed the news on an episode of "The Ellen DeGeneres Show." However, she didn't let out any further detail regarding her character in the movie.
"I can't say anything else other than I'm going to be in it," Zendaya told the host of the show, Ellen DeGeneres. Comic Book had earlier reported she would have a "key role" in the movie, playing a character named Michelle Gonzales.
In the comic books, Michelle is a roommate of Peter Parker a.k.a. Spider-Man, with whom she eventually falls in love. However, fans are not as familiar with the character as they are with other love interests of Parker, like Mary Jane or Gwen Stacy.
When asked whether she knows when the filming will start, Zendaya said she has no idea. "But it's very exciting," she said. "When it comes to the acting space, I am basically unknown. I've never been in a real movie before or anything like that, so I had to start from the bottom like anyone else."
In other news, Sony has announced it is moving ahead with a solo movie on Spider-Man's most menacing foe, Venom, according to Perez Hilton. The website said Sony is planning to build an entire movie franchise on the antagonist.
Even though Venom is one of the most prominent characters in the Spider-Man comic books, the website has reported the movie based on it will be completely unrelated to the upcoming Spider-Man reboot that has Tom Holland in the titular role. Hence, a new actor is going to be featured in the Venom movie.
MNR Daily has reported the Venom film's script will be written by Dante Harper and the movie will be produced by Avi Arad and Matt Tolmach. The movie will be part of a trilogy.
