Akshay Kumar's heist drama film, "Special 26" continuous to do well at the box office. Neeraj Pandey's directorial film has raked in approximately ₹81 crore from worldwide box offices in three weeks.
The film starring Akshay Kumar and Kajal Agarwal in the lead role has done pretty well in its third week despite new releases and has turned into a commercial success. The critically acclaimed movie, which is based on a real life story, was released in 1750 screens across the country.
The film collected approximately ₹4 crore in week 3 at domestic box office, taking the total earning in three weeks to ₹65 crore. It has grossed approximately ₹16 crore from overseas box office, taking the worldwide total to approximately ₹81 crore.
"Special 26" was released in less screens compared to Akshay's movies released last year but it managed to earn big in India.
Despite positive reviews and good word of mouth, the film failed to surpass the 100 crore mark at the box office. "Special 26" is Akshay's third film after "OMG Oh My God!" and "Khiladi 786" that failed to touch the century club in India.
The film opened to an average response but it picked up later during the first weekend and maintained a stable position at the theatres during the rest of the week. It dominated collection window in the first two weeks, but declined drastically in the third week.
The collection was affected because of the release of "Kai Po Che!" which garnered the attention of the audience. Moreover, several other new movies were released which reduced the screen count of Akshay's movie.
Neeraj Pandey's film is inspired by a real-life story of con artists who executed an income tax raid while posing as CBI officers in the 1980s. The film also features Jimmy Shergill, Manoj Bajpai, Anupam Kher and Divya Dutta in important roles.
