Last release "Special 26", starring Akshay Kumar and Kajal Agarwal in lead roles, has rounded off its first week on a high note at the domestic box office.
The heist drama topped the box office chart with ₹44 crore during the first week. Initially, the film was facing competition from "ABCD - Any Body Can Dance", but managed to push it down.
The film witnessed a big jump over the weekends and maintained a stable position during the weekdays. It fared well in multiplexes as against single screens. The business was excellent especially in the east Punjab territory.
The first week breakup of the film is: Friday ₹7 crore, Saturday ₹9 crore, Sunday ₹11 crore, Monday ₹5 crore, Tuesday ₹4.7 crore, Wednesday ₹3.9 crore and Thursday ₹ 3.4 crore, according to trade analyst and film critic Taran Adarsh.
The film also features Jimmy Shergill, Manoj Bajpai, Anupam Kher and Divya Dutta in important roles.
Neeraj Pandey's directorial movie was released in 1,750 screens across the country. The film is based on a real-life story, but after its release a case similar to the heist drama was reported in New Delhi.
A gang of criminal posing as CBI officers tried to extort ₹2 lakh from a businessman in Delhi's Lahori Gate area on Tuesday. Police arrested seven conmen and one of the accused is on the run.
"Read about a real life CBI raid straight out of #Special26 luckily the businessman being conned had presence of mind & alerted the police. Lesson to be learnt ask for ids before handing over any documents. Be alert, stay safe," Akshay Kumar tweeted.
