"Soukyam" is a romance family drama film with a good dose of comedy. The movie is about Srinivas (Gopichand), who is a jobless and careless guy pampered by his family. He falls in love with Shailaja (Regina Cassandra). By the time she accepts his proposal, her parents decide to marry her off to a politician's son. What happens next will form the crux of the story.
Critics say that Gopichand's performance is the only highlight of the movie, but other departments make this aspect ignorable. They add the film has nothing to offer audiences, but has only drawbacks. The flick has a routine story, boring screenplay, uninteresting dialogues, poor editing, forced spoofs and average music. They are upset with director AS Ravikumar Chowdary for not choosing a fresh story.
Popular scriptwriter duo Kona Venkat and Gopi Mohan, who have penned the screenplay for the movie, are responsible for the whole flop show of the film. They should change their routine formulaic way of scripting. In future, Telugu audiences will surely boycott their movies, if they do not change the formula, say the critics.
"Soukyam" has been rated an average of 1.62 out of 5 stars. We bring you some film critics' verdicts and ratings. Continue to read the verdict in "Soukyam" review roundup:
There is no story to tell here in "Soukhyam" other than sophisticated mix up of identities with unconvincing, implausible plotting and archaically hokey set ups. Sitting through this film is a very depressing experience. We see a lot of crummy writing, but a film as shopworn as this one deserves a peculiar call out. You would understand if amateurs were at work here, but the screenplay is by Kona Venkat - Gopi Mohan and actors of the caliber of Gopichand, Mukesh Rishi, Pradeep Rawat and Rajan have agreed to do this film. And yet, it decocts to one of the most claptrap outings at the theatres in recent times.
Soukhyam is one of the most routine and cleashed films which has come out in the recent past. Even though the makers have tried hard to induce some commercial elements and comedy, nothing seems to work and the movie falls flat in every department. You can safely ignore this movie and look for any other good release which will be out on this Christmas eve.
Soukhyam is a clear example of taking things for granted. Writers believed that audience will watch anything if they add some spoof scenes and so called comedy moments. Yes, there was a time when audiences were more than happy to pay for watching the same stupidity over and over again. Well there is a limit for everything and the formula that was invented by Kona-Gopi was well past the expiry date.
"Soukhyam" in the end neither justifies the title nor gives you the clean entertainment you seek in the last week of an eventful year in Tollywood. It should have been titled "Shubham" and ended with that.
