It is not new for Virat Kohli to set records. The Indian captain has been phenomenal on the cricket field. Now, his batting journey for the year 2017 has ended. However, he continues to set marks, this time, outside the ground.

Yesterday (December 11), Kohli began a new innings in life as he tied the knot with his girlfriend Anushka Sharma. The wedding, which was kept a secret, happened in Italy.

At 8.51 PM IST on Monday, Kohli made the big announcement on the micro-blogging website Twitter. He confirmed his marriage to Anushka.
"Today we have promised each other to be bound in love for ever. We are truly blessed to share the news with you.This beautiful day will be made more special with the love and support of our family of fans & well wishers. Thank you for being such an important part of our journey," the 29-year-old wrote on his Twitter page along with a picture from the wedding ceremony.
As soon as he posted this to his 21 plus million followers, he was inundated with congratulatory messages. And they continue to pour in. Cricketers and fans took to social media to wish the couple.

Till now (11.57 AM IST, December 12), Kohli's marriage tweet has been retweeted 71,429 times and liked by 349,167 users. This itself is a new record for a cricketer.
As per statistics available from Twitter, batting legend Sachin Tendulkar's tweet in November 2013 after his international cricket retirement, had set a new Indian record. Now, Kohli has overtaken that.
"I am really touched with #ThankYouSachin messages. Your support all these years have inspired me to give my best," Tendulkar had written on November 13, 2013. This was retweeted over 16,500 times and liked by nearly 13,000.

This is not the first time that Kohli has scaled a new high on Twitter. In March, 2016, his tweet in support of Anushka and blasting the trolls had garnered lot of attention. It was retweeted nearly 40,000 times and liked by more than one lakh users.
He had written on March 28, 2016, "Shame on people for trolling @AnushkaSharma non-stop. Have some compassion. She has always only given me positivity." This was the most retweeted tweet in India in the year 2016.

Kohli will resume his cricketing duties when India travel to South Africa in the last week of this month. India play three Tests, six ODIs and three T20Is. The Test rubber starts on January 5, 2018.
