Japanese technology firm Sony on Tuesday (30 July) officially launched its first flagship phablet - Xperia Z Ultra, at an event in Delhi.
The giant phablet is expected to hit brick-and-mortar retail stores across the country by 2 August with a price-tag of ₹46,990. Online stores are offering the same device for ₹2,000 less. Saholic and Infibeam are selling the Xperia Z Ultra for ₹44,990, whereas Flipkart is taking pre-orders for the same price.
Sony's 6.4-inch Xperia Z Ultra is touted to be the slimmest and biggest full HD device in its class (phablets). It boasts of Triluminos TFT LCD screen with X-Reality for Mobile and BRAVIA Engine 2 display technology. The screen is aptly guarded by scratch-resistant glass with a shatter-proof sheet on top of it.
The new Sony phablet runs on the Android mobile OS v4.2 Jelly Bean OS and packs a powerful and efficient 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series quad-core processor paired with Adreno 330 graphics engine. In terms of storage, it houses 2GB RAM and 16GB of storage space which is expandable up to 64GB.
Other mentionable features are its 8.0-megapixel rear camera with Exmor RS image sensor and 16X digital zoom. It also flaunts a 2.0-megapixel camera on the front. Both cameras have the ability to record full HD video.
Like all its top-notch Xperia siblings, the new phablet also boasts of water-resistant and dust-proof IP55/IP58 certifications which allow users to record video up to five feet under water for close to 30 minutes.
