Sony was said to make waves at the CES 2015 event last week by launching its flagship Xperia Z4 smartphone. The three-day event concluded without any official announcement about the Xperia Z4 release. The latest round of rumours hint that Sony showcased its next flagship behind the curtains at CES and that the official release is slated for another trade show in March.
There has already been a lot of buzz around the Xperia Z4 release. It was widely speculated that Sony might unveil the Xperia Z4 at the CES event following its bi-annual release cycle. Clearly, Sony has different plans for its next flagship release.
Speaking at CES 2015, Sony's Product Marketing Communications Executive, Stephen Sneeden, remained cryptic about the Z4 release date. He emphasised that the company's flagship line-up was updated recently but also revealed that its next release is set for this year, Christian Today reported. And if the rumours are to be believed, Sony showcased its Xperia Z4 to the US carriers at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.
By missing the CES event to launch the Z4 smartphone, Sony has squashed the hopes of many. The tech giant released the Xperia Z3 at the 2014 Mobile World Congress in Barcelona so it is safe to assume that the flagship upgrade will happen at the same event this year. The 2015 MWC is scheduled to take place in Barcelona from 2-5 March. Sony is widely expected to take the curtains off its new Xperia Z4 flagship in March.
Besides the release date rumours, leaked reports have indicated that the Xperia Z4 will come in two variants with different screen resolutions. One of them would sport a Quad HD display while the other will settle for a Full HD resolution on the same 5.5-inch display. Other leaked specs for the Z4 include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC, 4GB RAM, 21mp Exmor rear-facing camera, 3.2mp front snapper, 3,300mAh battery and Android 5.0 Lollipop.
