Sony India today (8 May) launched the much awaited company's 2014 flagship smartphone Xperia Z2 at New Delhi.
The company will begin selling the Xperia Z2 for ₹49,990 from 21 May and is also giving away the new SmartBand SWR10 and back-cover worth ₹5990 and ₹2990 respectively free with the phone.
Like its predecessor, Sony Xperia Z2 features Omni-Balance design language, which fuses one-piece Aluminum frame with glass panels giving premium look to the phone. Additionally, the device also carries IP55/58 water-and-dust repellent certifications making it more durable.
[Note: users can operate phone (can take photos as well) 1.5 meter (almost 5 feet) under water for 30 minutes, just need to remember to close the ports with the flaps provided in the package, before venturing into a water body]
The new Xperia Z2 sports a 5.2-inch full HD (1920x1080p) screen boasting display technologies - TRILUMINOS and X-Reality for mobile picture engine and ships with the latest Android v4.4 KitKat OS.
Under the hood, it packs the new Snapdragon 801 series processor with 2.3GHz CPU speed backed by Adreno 330 graphics engine, sumptuous 3GB RAM, 16GB inbuilt storage (expandable up to 128GB) and a 3200 mAh battery.
One of the main USP of Xperia Z2 is its top-of-the-line camera features. It houses 20.7-megapixel camera which incorporates Sony's proprietary G Lens and the intelligent BIONZ image-processing engine, Exmor RS sensor, LED flash, HDR (picture/video), image stabilizer and a notable improvement over its predecessor is that is can record 4K Ultra HD video recording (that's twice the vertical and horizontal resolution of 1080p full HD format). It also houses a 2.2-megapixel snapper on the front with full HD video taking ability.
On the other hand, Sony SmartBand weighs just 21 grams and is compactable with all Android (v4.4 KitKat and up) devices via NFC. Its Lifelog application automatically records users' physical, social and entertainment activities of the day and give tips to improve their fitness.
