Sony's flagship phablet Xperia Z Ultra set its foot in the Indian market in late July, the very month when LG too had released its 5.5-inch Optimus G Pro in the country.
After a long time, the market has witnessed the rise of competitors to the reigning leader of phablet business, Samsung Galaxy Note series. If buyers are planning to get a hand on a newer and superior phablet other than the 2012 Samsung Galaxy Note 2 model, LG Optimus G Pro and Xperia Z ultra make a better buy.
Here is a brief description of Key features of Sony Xperia Z Ultra and LG Optimus G Pro:
Display:
LG Optimus G Pro features a 5.5-inch True HD IPS LCD screen with full HD (1920x1080p) resolution having pixel density of close to 400 ppi (pixel per inch). The display is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 2 shield.
On the other hand, Sony Xperia Z Ultra sports a mammoth 6.4-inch Triluminos TFT LCD screen with X-Reality For mobile and BRAVIA Engine 2 display technology having Full HD (1920x1080p) resolution and pixel density of 342 ppi. It features a shatter-proof and scratch resistant glass sheet on top of the screen.
Processor:
In terms of power, the Sony Xperia phablet trumps the LG phone thanks to its superior new generation Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series quad-core processor with 2.2GHz CPU speed. On the other hand, the Optimus G Pro packs a slower previous generation Snapdragon 600 series chipset with 1.7GHz clock speed.
Camera:
In this aspect, Xperia Z Ultra once again pips the LG handset; even though Optimus G Pro boasts of a more superior 13.0-megapixel camera compared to Sony handset's 8.0-megapixel snapper. Xperia Z Ultra has an advantage that only a few smartphones in the industry can boast of. It features dust-proof and water-resistant certifications IP55/58, wherein a user can take pictures and video upto five feet underwater for close to 30 minutes.
LG Optimus G pro flaunts a 2.1-megapixel camera on the front side which can record 720p HD video, whereas Xperia XZ Ultra can take full HD (1080p) video with its 2.0-megapixel front camera.
Operating System:
In this aspect, both Sony and LG smartphones stand even as they run on the same Android OS platform. Optimus G Pro runs on the v4.1.2 Jelly Bean OS, whereas Xperia Z Ultra ships with Android v4.2 Jelly Bean.
Price:
According to recent reports, Sony Xperia Z costs around ₹44,690 and the price of LG Optimus G Pro is hovering around ₹38,500, almost ₹6000 less than the rival phablet.
Taking note of the overall specifications, Xperia Z Ultra justifies its exorbitant price-tag. However, considering that India is a price-sensitive market, many prospective buyers might go for the LG Optimus G Pro which is also a top-notch device.
