Sony's presence in the gaming industry is quite spectacular, thanks to the lucrative PlayStation-series, but the Japanese tech giant couldn't replicate its success in the smartphone space. Despite some of the best features, Sony Xperia phones showed resistance towards changing trends and it looks like the company is still adamant.
According to the latest leaked image of an unreleased Sony smartphone, the Xperia XZ3, which is set to make its debut at the upcoming IFA 2018, there aren't any major cosmetic changes compared to its predecessor. MySmartPrice shared the image of the alleged Xperia XZ3, which looks a lot identical to the Xperia XZ2.
The rear design of the leaked handset shows a single camera, which is a downgrade from the Xperia XZ2 Premium's dual camera setup, and sizable bezels at the top and the bottom of the display without a notch design. The image also shows a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner at a time when in-display sensor and advanced facial recognition are driving the much-needed change in flagship smartphones.
If the leaked image is accurate, Sony is skipping two most important trends in its Xperia XZ3 – the dual primary camera setup and bezel-less screen with a notch for necessary sensors.
The leaked image also confirms NFC support, the signature camera button in addition to the power and volume keys on the right side of the device and a stereo speaker at the extreme bottom edge of the display.
In another leak from MySmartPrice, four colours were leaked for the Xperia XZ3, including Silver, Black, Purple and Green. By the looks of it, the purple one is likely to gain some attention as it hasn't been seen in any of other Sony smartphones.
The rest of the features about the Xperia XZ3 are a mystery, but rumours suggest a 48MP rear-facing camera, a 5.7-inch Full HD+ display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 chipset, 6GB RAM, 128GB internal storage, microSD card slot along with dual SIM 4G slots, and a 3,240mAh battery.
Sony Xperia XZ3 will naturally run Android 8.1 Oreo out-of-the-box, with a guaranteed upgrade to Android Pie when available. Sony is yet to confirm the release at the IFA 2018, but the global trade show for technology innovations is set to begin on August 31 in Berlin, Germany.
Stay tuned for updates.
