Sony has confirmed the release date of its Xperia Tablet Z for May-end, saying that this was the destined release date for the tablet since its launch.
The company, which started taking pre-orders for the tablets two weeks ago, clarified that customers were misinformed about the release date of the device. Earlier, reports stated that Sony's Xperia Tablet Z will hit stores in April.
"Xperia Tablet Z became available for pre-order last week and we're delighted by the incredible response. During this process however, some Sony customers were misinformed of the expected delivery date to be 12th to 15th April," the company statement read.
It further added: "This was in error and has never been the case; the units will be delivered as scheduled at the end of May. We apologise for any confusion caused - customers are being contacted individually by phone (or email if unavailable) to ensure the correct information reaches them."
Sony's 10.1-inch Xperia Z, measuring 6.9mm in thickness and weighing 495 grams, is said to be the slimmest and lightest tablet so far in the market. The tablet, which was unveiled at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, sports an 8-megapixel rear camera and comes equipped with Exmor R feature for mobile, as well as a 2-megapixel HD front-facing camera.
The most notable feature of the Sony Xperia Z tablet is its one-touch function, which enables users to share songs, photos and videos to other NFC-enabled devices at a fast speed and with ease. Another feature is its Universal IR Remote that can control TV and other devices directly from the tablet. The tablet packs 6,000mAH battery and is dust-proof and water resistant. The 16GB storage version of the tablet is available for $499, while the 64GB version is available for $599.
