Sony has started rolling out the Android 5.1 Lollipop OTA (over-the-air) update and security patch for the month of January to its Xperia M5 and M5 Dual devices.
The firmware update moves Xperia M5 single-SIM (E5603, E5653, E5606) to build number 30.1.A.1.33 and Xperia M5 Dual (E5633, E5663, E5643) to 30.1.B.1.33, according to XperiaBlog. It went on to say there was no information on the device with number E5643 getting the firmware.
Sony claimed the firmware update improves volume and silent-mode control, and allows taking pictures from the camera using Sony SmartWatch 3.
How to install Android 5.1 Lollipop via OTA on Sony Xperia M5 and M5 Dual devices:
- Android 5.1 Lollipop download notification will appear on the screen of your device
- Press "Download" button
- Press "Restart & Install" button
- Rebooting will begin automatically
- You will see "Installing System Update" notice when installation starts
- Upgrading begins automatically
- Android 5.1 Lollipop will run on your device after upgrading is done
You can also manually check availability of the new software by going to – 'Settings' >> 'About phone' >> 'System updates' >> 'Check For Update'.
In the meantime, the Xperia M5 is currently up for pre-order in the UK with two-year contract. It sports a 5-inch IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen with 1,080x1,920-pixel (441 ppi pixel density) resolution, and a dimension of 145 x 72 x 7.6 mm. Under the hood, it has a Mediatek Helio X10 processor clocking 2.0GHZ, 16GB internal memory (expandable up to 200GB via microSD card), 3GB RAM, a 21.5MP Exmore RS camera with f/2.2, a 13MP front-snapper with f/2.0, and a non-removable Li-Ion 2,600mAh battery.
