Snapshots and features of the yet-to-be-released Xperia M5 and Xperia C5 Ultra have surfaced online just hours ahead of Sony's new device launch event, which is scheduled on 3 August.
Russian blog Hi-Tech Mail posted a slew of images of the alleged Sony devices, revealing key details. Once the word got out in the media, the page was pulled off the Internet (probably fearing legal action from Sony). But, by then, many technology sites had already taken screen shots of the smartphones.
As per the leaked photos (courtesy, Xperia Blog), the 6.0-inch full HD Xperia C5 Ultra looks slim and the presence of aluminum chassis around the edges brings a sense of premium feel. It also boasts a glossy cover on the rear-side. Under the hood, the device is said to feature 1.7GHz MediaTek Octa-core processor, 2GB RAM ,16GB storage, 2,930 mAh battery and a 13mp camera with LED flash on both front and back.
On the other hand, the 5.0-inch Sony Xperia looks compact and its design language is kind of similar to the current flagship smartphone Xperia Z3+. The four metallic corner caps around the edges are uncanny, but the similarity ends there. Inside, its completely different. [View the images of Xperia M5 and Xperia C5 Ultra, HERE]
Xperia M5 is expected to house 2.0GHz MediaTek Helio, 3GB RAM, 16GB memory (expandable), a 2,600 mAh battery, which is capable of powering the phone for close to two days.
The USP of Xperia M5 is said to be the main camera on the rear-side. The 20.5mp Exmore RS camera boasts the company's latest proprietary Sony IMX230 CMOS sensor, advanced autofocus, f/2.2 aperture, fast autofocus (0.2 seconds), 5x zoom with no perceptible loss in quality and 4K video recording capability. On the front, it is said to come packed with a 13mp snapper.
Soon after the unveiling, both Xperia M5 and Xperia C5 Ultra will hit stores first in Russia .The former model is expected to cost anywhere between 21,000-22000 roubles ($340 – $356/€309-€324/₹21,770-₹22,805), whereas the latter is expected to be priced around 24,000-25,000 roubles ($389 – $405/€353-€368/₹24,880--₹25,915).
As of now, nothing is set in stone. We cannot vouch for the details claimed by Hi-Tech Mail, despite its good track record of unravelling devices before their official launch, because rumour has it that Sony will only unveil one device on Monday (3 August). We just have to wait for a few more hours to really know what Sony has in store for us.
