After weeks of intense speculation, Japanese electronics giant Sony finally unveiled the monster phablet Xperia Z Ultra at the ongoing MAE (Mobile Asia Expo) 2013 in Shanghai on Tuesday.
Commenting on the launch, Director of Xperia Marketing at Sony Mobile Communications, Calum MacDougall said, "The Xperia Z Ultra is the most exciting revolution in large-screen smartphone entertainment devices with both the slimmest and largest Full HD smartphone display* in the world that is second to none."
"We're (Sony Mobile Division) already bringing the best of Sony technology and design across a range of premium smartphones and tablets, and now we are bringing this same premium offering to the large-screen smartphone segment, setting a new standard for others to follow," he added.
Sony Xperia Z Ultra sports a 6.4-inch Full HD TRILUMINOS screen with new display technology X-Reality Mobile engine and runs on the Android v4.2 Jelly Bean powered by the super-fast 2.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon 800 series quad-core processor with Adreno 330 graphics engine.
Like all its high-end Xperia brethrens, the new phablet also boast of dust-proof and water-resistant IP55/IP58 certifications. Users can record full HD videos under water using the 8.0-megapixel camera which boasts of Exmor RS camera technology and 16X digital zoom with auto-focus.
Sony has confirmed that the new Xperia Z Ultra will hit global markets with three colour variants - black, white and purple, by the third quarter of 2013. However, the company chose to remain silent regarding the price details of the flagship device.
Along with the new Xperia Z Ultra, Sony also launched the second generation SmartWatch 2 at the MAE 2013.
