Following Google's Lollipop update release, most of the big smartphone manufacturers such as Motorola, HTC, Samsung and LG have already released the much-deserving OTA update for several models.
Going a step further, HTC, Samsung and LG have announced their new smartphones run on Android Lollipop OS. But Japanese smartphone manufacturer Sony is yet to release the update for its flagship smartphones. Though it announced to release the update for all its Z and S series of smartphones, none of them have received any update till date.
But there is a big surprise waiting for all Sony smartphone users. According to a TechTastic report, the Wi-Fi Alliance has just approved the Android 5.0 L update for the Sony Xperia Z3 smartphone, which means Sony will soon release the OTA update.
There is no other news about sensational Sony phones like Z3 Compact or S smartphone, but since Z3 Compact and Z3's specification is almost identical, the latter will also receive the update, following the Z3 one.
The report further mentions Sony may feature some new overlay custom lock screen, quick setting menu and notification bar over Google's material design. Significantly, all Sony manufactured smartphones feature Sony Xperia UI over the stock Google interface.
However, Sony is yet to speak on whether it will introduce some new modification over its existing Xperia UI or feature the same UI over the Android 5 Lollipop update.
Significantly, the Z3 is the current flagship smartphone of Sony and there are several rumours that the company might release its successor Z4 in the upcoming MWC 2015 event in March.
