Sony has confirmed that the 3.00 system software update codenamed Kenshin for PlayStation 4 (PS4) will be available for download on Wednesday, 30 September.
Considered to be one of the biggest software updates to the gaming console till date, the firmware will come with user-interface enhancements and several new features, including increase of cloud storage from 1GB to 10GB for PS Plus members, live streaming on YouTube, sharing of videos on Twitter, request to watch gameplay etc.
Here are the new features of the firmware:
PlayStation Plus: A dedicated section that can be accessed by clicking the big Plus icon on top of the home screen has been made for PlayStation Plus. It lets you manage your membership easily, see the monthly free games to download, deals for PS Plus members, and all of the games you've redeemed through PS Plus on PS4.
YouTube live: You can live stream directly from your PS4 to YouTube through a new icon for YouTube on the Broadcast Gameplay Screen.
PNG Screenshots: You can select PNG instead of JPEG if you don't like your game screenshots to be in a higher quality format by pressing Share > Share Settings > Screenshot Settings > Image Format.
Events: Accessible from the home screen, Events give you an overview of activities taking place in the games you play most, as well as official broadcasts.
Improvements to Messages and Favourite Groups: Messages have been improved by making it easier to access groups of people you chat and play games with frequently. Once you're added to or create a group, you'll see the online status for friends, what games they are playing, and the option to message or chat in party all in one spot. When you add or create a new favourite group, they'll appear in your Friends app under Favourite Groups for quick access.
Communities: Users can create communities based around shared interests, like games, genres, and more. Communities include a message board with general discussion, screenshots shared by players, and the ability to join parties.
Stickers: The new software update contains stickers themed around Uncharted 4: A Thief's End, Knack, LittleBigPlanet 3, Resogun, and more. One can send a sticker instead of a message.
Video clips sharing on Twitter: Players can share video clips to Twitter. Length of a video shouldn't exceed 10 seconds.
Now Playing: This feature displays information about activities of your friends, so you can jump into a game, party and request a screen share among others.
