There was a lot of buzz recently about Sony's next flagship with rumours hinting at a major overhaul in the Xperia Z4. The 2015 flagship smartphone comes with notable specs upgrade but remains calm on the exterior design.
It's surprising that Sony did not hold any special press event to unveil the Xperia Z4, instead went ahead and ousted the details of the new smartphone in a detailed press release. At last, we finally have the official specs of the Xperia Z4 smartphone, which is much in line with the speculated ones.
Design
Sony announced the Xperia Z4 smartphone on its Japanese press site, detailing everything that's new in the next-gen smartphone. Built around Sony's flagship design, Xperia Z4 does not look any different. Of course, there are a few minor tweaks but it raises the question whether it's enough to convince consumers to make the switch. The new handset is slightly thinner than the Xperia Z3, measuring just 6.9mm.
The Xperia Z4 is covered with polished metal frame and glass back, true to its Omni balance design concept.
Display
Nothing much is changed on the display side in Xperia Z4. Like the Xperia Z3, the new flagship also features a 5.2-inch Full HD 1920x1080 TRILUMINOS display.
Under the Hood
If looks don't matter, Sony Xperia Z4 has the potential to run the flagship race but not certain if it can win top rank. Under the hood, Xperia Z4 is powered by Qualcomm's latest 64-bit octa-core Snapdragon 810 SoC paired with 3GB RAM and 32GB built-in storage. There's a microSD card slot to add more space, up to 128GB. Sony has packed a bigger 2930mAh battery into Xperia Z4, which has a sealed water and dust resistant build, like the previous models in the flagship Xperia series. Finally, powering up the handset is Google's latest Android 5.0 Lollipop.
Camera
Sony flaunts its extensive camera capabilities in the Xperia Z4. Taking advantage of its extreme supremacy in photography, Xperia Z4 packs the same 20.7-megapixel rear-facing camera with 1/2.3-inch Exmor RS sensor and BOINZ image processor promises incredible low-light shooting. Add that to Sony's proprietary camera modes, such as cooking mode, random auto mode, style portrait, AR mask and more. Those who love taking selfies will be impressed with Sony's 5.1MP front snapper in the Xperia Z4, which is a massive upgrade compared to Z3's 2.2MP sensor.
Price and Availability
Sony hasn't revealed the pricing of its Xperia Z4 but confirmed the handset will be launched in Japan this summer. International availability of the handset is yet to be revealed. Sony offers four colour choices for its Xperia Z4 -- the standard white and black and all-new aqua green and copper variants.
