Apparently to promote its waterproof smartphones, Sony launched a website dirtyphones.org recently.
The Japanese smartphone maker is promoting its IP67/ IP68 certified series of smartphones, which include Xperia M4 Aqua Dual, Xperia Z3, Xperia Z3 Compact, Xperia Z2, Xperia Z1, Xperia Z1 Compact and Xperia Z Ultra, using this campaign.
It is likely that the company will use it to promote Xperia Z3+, which is about to be released next week in the country.
The home page on the website flashes an image of a public urinal with an interesting caption: "Here is a dirty secret: Your Phone may be filthier than a public toilet."
Referring to a research, it has an interesting statistic also: "There are about 25,000 germs per square inch on the average touch phone."
Scrolling down the page, there is more information on how germs come into contact with phones at public places. The page further explains that germs also infect phones when we hold our devices in our hands.
While cleaning an infected smartphone is possible in many ways, including using a tissue or a UV light cleaner, the best way is to clean it with water. But, the promotional campaign says, washing a phone with water is an option only when it is IP67 orIP68 certified.
Though a variety of flagship smartphones have this feature, Sony offers a range of smartphones that are IP67 orIP68 certified.
The campaign sounds interesting, especially just ahead of the release of Sony Xperia Z3+. Sony has started sending invitations to the media for an event to be held in New Delhi on 26 June.
