Sony is making meaningful changes to its flagship series of smartphones to improve the overall user experience. The Japanese tech giant rolled out an important camera update to the Xperia Z5 series that changes many things to make the usability simpler.
The quality of the Xperia Z5 is great but the UI could be better. After listening to users' feedback, Sony implemented the new changes in the Xperia Z5's camera that puts all the essential operations in the forefront.
Compared to the older UI, the updated camera v2.0.0 interface looks much cleaner and organised. The camera screen now features the capture button, settings and the gallery view at the bottom (in portrait mode). The video record icon has been removed and it now can be enabled with a simple swipe, where all other camera modes have been added.
On the top of the camera UI, the flash has been shifted to the left corner and the selfie camera switch takes the right corner of the screen (in portrait mode). All camera modes such as Manual, Video and Camera can be accessed by swiping left or right on the main screen. The changes make it a lot easier compared to the previous UI, where users had to go to camera mode options from the bottom left and choose the necessary mode before shooting.
The Settings option, which now sits at the bottom left, features all the controls including: self-timer, resolution, smile shutter, geo-tagging and more. The colour and brightness controls have also been shifted inside the Settings menu from top of the UI.
In Manual mode, all the necessary ISO settings are placed conveniently at the bottom (in portrait mode), making it easier to capture shots. In the selfie camera mode, brightness, contrast, WB Auto and other settings are also placed right next to the capture button (see picture below).
Overall, the camera UI looks quite impressive and the update comes as a crucial one for those who love shooting on their Xperia Z5 series. The Camera v 2.0.0 update also brings Material Design animations to the camera app, giving it a sleeker look.
"We're excited to announce that our new camera update – first previewed back at IFA – rolls out from today for Xperia Z5, Xperia Z5 Compact and Xperia Z5 Premium. It brings a minimalist interface and new features designed to make capturing the best shots and accessing Xperia Camera apps even easier," Sony said in a blog post.
The camera update will arrive on Xperia Z5 smartphones over the air. If you are too eager to try out the update, you can also download the APK file and install it on your phone right away. It's worth mentioning the APK is compatible only with Xperia Z5 series and Xperia Z3+ and Xperia Z4, Tech Times reports.
