The songs of Bhama's upcoming film "Ottamandaram" directed by Vinod Mankara are released. The film has a total of two songs composed by Ramesh Narayanan and the lyrics are penned by the director himself.
The first song of the film, which begins with the lines "Mampoo Pozhikunna Katte" is sung by Sujatha and the second song, "Onnam Kombathe" is sung her daughter Swetha Mohan. This is the first time the mother–daughter duo has worked together for a film.
The film's music launch was held at Trivandrum Press Club and the CD was handed over to Sujatha by actress Bhama and actor Nandu Pothuvaal. The event was held in the presence of director Lenin Rajendran, actor Shankar Ramakrishnan, cinematographer Udayan Ambady, other film fraternities and media.
The story of "Ottamandaram" discusses the plight of Indian women and revolves around the life of a 14 year old girl, Kala (played by Bhaama) who lives in a village, which even lacks basic amenities. Kala is brought up by her sister, Neela and her brother in law, Bharathan who does not have children. Bharathan is well respected in the village as he is very helpful to others. Even though he has dedicated his whole life to his family, he is very upset about not having children.
The whole village has high hopes on Kala as she is good at studies and extracurricular activities. Kala dreams of becoming a doctor, but her life take a turn upside down when she is forced to marry her brother in law. The rest of the film revolves around Kala's plight after marriage, motherhood and how she succumbs to depression.
"Ottamandaram" is Vinod's second feature film. His first film was "Karayilekku Oru Kadal Dooram" (2010) starring Indrajith, Mamta Mohandas and Dhanya Mary Varghese in the lead. The film won many accolades, including, Kerala Film Critics Award for the Best Debutant Director and M. Jayachandran got Kerala State Film Award for Best Music Director.
The Bhama starrer also has Nandu Pothuvaal, Sajitha Madathil, Nedumudi Venu, Shankar Ramakrishnan, Narayanan Nair, Rukmini Amma, Kochu Preman and Kulapully Leela in pivotal roles.
The story, screenplay and dialogue are done by Ajay Muthana, who is a well acclaimed journalist. The cinematography is handled by Udayan Ambady and the editing is done by Hashim. "Ottamandaram" is produced by Papilonia Vision
