Ajay Devgn and Sonakshi Sinha-starrer "Son of Sardaar" is doing quite well at the domestic as well as overseas box office despite the controversy surrounding it.
Ashwini Dhir's directorial film is a remake of Telugu movie "Maryada Ramanna."
Released along with Yash Chopra's last film "Jab Tak Hai Jaan", "SOS" is doing superb business collection at the box offices. On Tuesday, it collected Rs 4.82 crore, taking the overall domestic box collection to Rs 76.35 crore, according to trade analyst and film critics Taran Adarsh.
But "SOS" box collection is less than that of Shahrukh Khan, Katrina Kaif and Anushka Sharma-starrer "Jab Tak Hai Jaan". "JTHJ" collected Rs 90.75 crore within seven days of its release.
After "Ek Tha Tiger" and "JTHJ," Ajay Devgn's home production "Son of Sardaar" was one of the most-hyped films of the year in the Hindi film industry. And Ajay's legal war against YRF added hype and curiosity of the film.
"SOS" was released in more than 2000 theaters across the country on Tuesday, but failed to beat "JTHJ" at the ticket window. It is also facing a tough competition from "JTHJ" in the overseas market too.
The two films might be affecting each other, but for Bollywood this year has been the biggest and best Diwali, according to Adarsh. The combine worldwide total of the two movie stands at Rs 199.28 crore (Tuesday to Sunday).
"Achieving the magical figure of approx 200 cr [worldwide] in 6 days only goes to prove the power of Hindi cinema," Adarsh said.
