After the successful daily soap Diya Aur Baati Hum, the makers of the show Shashi and Sumeet Mittal are gearing up for their next project that belongs to a completely different genre.
The new show is inspired by long running American TV show Last Man Standing. The series, which is running in its sixth season, narrates the life of Mike Baxter (Tim Allen), a senior marketing professional of an outdoor sporting goods store based in Colorado, his wife and three daughters. Mike's life revolves around these women.
Bollywood actor Vinay Pathak has been roped in to play the male lead in the Indian version of the American series while Barkha Singh of Girls On Top fame will essay the role of one of the three daughters.
The latest buzz is that Smita Bansal, who rose to popularity as Sumitra in Balika Vadhu, will be playing Vinay's wife in the show, the Times of India reported. The yet-to-be titled show will be aired on Star Plus.
Of late, many Indian producers are feeling tempted to make Hindi soaps based on international TV shows. The latest one being P.O.W.- Bandi Yuddh Ke, the Indian adaptation of the Israeli series Hatufim, which also inspired popular U.S. series Homeland. P.O.W.- Bandi Yuddh Ke, which went on air last week, has been garnering positive responses from viewers.
There were also reports that Sony Entertainment Television was set to launch a new show Rani Mahal, which is supposedly the Indian version of HBO's widely popular fantasy series Game of Thrones. Popular TV actors such as Sakshi Tanwar, Anita Hassanandani, Ankita Lokhande, yesteryear Bollywood actress Reena Roy, Yuvraj Thakur and many others were reportedly roped in to play crucial roles. However, the show was shelved apparently because producer Vikas Gupta was unable to dedicate time for the project.
