Smartron srt.phone Sachin Tendulkar edition coming next week; Here's what you need to know

Home-bred smartphone, Smartron, which launched t.phone in mid-2016, is getting ready to launch a special edition srt.phone next week.

Smartron, partly funded by Sachin R Tendulkar, is hosting an event in New Delhi on May 3 to unveil the special edition phone with the cricket legend's initials, SRT, etched on it.

"Ready for a surprise? We're excited & can't wait to share it with you all. #srtphone is on its way on 3rd May'17, are you ready? #TwoOfAKind, " read Smartron's official Twitter message.

The Master Blaster re-tweeted the message expressing excitement over the upcoming phone.

As of now, there is no word on the specifications of the upcoming Smartron phone, but it is expected to run on Android Nougat OS with mid-range hardware.

Speculations are rife that Smartron srt.phone is expected to be priced under Rs. 15,000. If this is true, this is a welcome move by the company, as the mid-tier segment is a good bet to scale up market share.

The t.phone, despite boasting a feature-rich hardware, failed to garner good response from the consumers in the face of competition from Chinese companies, which offered phones with similar features at much lesser price.
