Smartron joined the flagship device race with its premium t.phone that was launched in India on Thursday. The company's flagship device offers a unique design with high-end features at a reasonable price. Smartron t.phone is available exclusively on Gadgets360 for Rs. 22,999, but it remains to be seen if the company can actually convince buyers to shell out such a price for its handset.
Smartron t.phone requires buyers to register before purchasing the device; however, it will only be available in early June, Gadgets360 reported. Buyers can also order the t.phone from Smartron's tstore, where the handset is still listed as coming soon. But the website offers a look at a series of new devices and accessories that are to be launched in India, including wireless speaker, headphones, adaptor, screen guards and more.
"Smartron tphone is a great addition to tron generation of Smart Things to Come and critical to the tronx experience," Mahesh Lingareddy, founder of Smartron India, said in a statement. "It is one of the most exciting devices in the line of products that the brand plans to launch this year."
Lingareddy also talked about the company's plans to dive deeper into the niche Internet of Things (IoT) field with new products and plans to locally manufacturer all products in India within the next 2-3 years. "The brand's vision is to make consumers' life simpler and smarter by bringing more autonomous and intelligent devices and services," he said.
As for the Smartron t.phone, the handset comes with quite an impressive spec-sheet. It features a 5.5-inch full HD AMOLED display with Corning Gorilla Glass 3 protection and Oleophobic coating and a dual-colour metal body. The t.phone is powered by an octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 810 SoC with 4GB DDR4 RAM, 64GB expandable storage and unlimited t.cloud online storage.
Smartron t.phone features a 13-megapixel rear-facing Isocell sensor with 6-element lens and zero shutter lag, and a 4MP 2-micron pixel front snapper for selfies. The handset is equipped with 4 mic systems for clear on-call audio and a DTS Premium Sound and PlayFi integrated stereo.
For charging the device, t.phone features a USB Type-C port with Quick Charge 2.0 and a 3,000mAh battery. It supports 4G LTE, dual SIM and runs the latest Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow based tronx UI, which gives access to t.store, t.care and t.cloud in one place. Smartron t.phone comes in four colour variants -- sunrise orange, classic grey, metallic pink and steel blue.
With these specifications and price, the t.phone emerges as a strong contender in the flagship race. But it will soon be facing another competitor by YU, which is launching its 2016 flagship Yunicorn smartphone in India on May 31.
