Earlier this week, The CW announced that Superman will be making a full-fledged appearance in the second season of "Supergirl." Several excited fans immediately took to Twitter, campaigning for "Smallville" actor Tom Welling to return as Superman. Well, thanks to a recent development, chances of that happening just became a lot stronger.
One of the main reasons why it was deemed next to impossible for Welling to reprise his role on "Supergirl" was because the actor has been working on a drama series called "Section 13" for CBS. However, TV Line reported recently that the network is "not moving forward" with that show, so Welling's got a lot of free time on his hands now.
In the past year, Welling has frequently been asked whether or not he would play Superman on "Supergirl" if he was given the opportunity. Even though he never said yes, he did indicate on multiple occasions that he would be open to the possibility.
"There's people who would like it. There's people who don't like it, but I will tell you that no one has ever asked me to do it. So, I don't know," Welling told Buzzfeed earlier this year. "It would be kind of odd. I don't know who he is at that point. He would obviously be Superman..." (via ComicBook)
Season 2 of "Supergirl" will premiere on The CW this fall.
