Skoda Auto is known for cars that focus on practicality and space. The Czech brand has a range of cars in popular segments such as hatchback, sedan and recently in the SUV space. The Mlada Boleslav has never shown interest in catering to niche segments in the auto industry. However, emerging reports indicate Skoda is reworking on its strategy.

Skoda unveiled Vision E study, a five-door electric coupe-SUV at the Shanghai Motor Show 2017 in April. That is just the curtain raiser as Skoda is prepping for an all-electric sports car. While explaining the history of the brand and its iconic models to Auto Express, Christian Strube, Skoda's boss for technical development hinted at the arrival of Skoda sports cars. When asked if Skoda would ever make a car like the 110 R, Strube replied, "Yes, but electric."
For uninitiated, the Skoda 110R was a rear-engined, rear-wheel drive sports coupe produced between 1970 and 1980. During those ten years, a total of 56,902 coupes were made.
Strube has not mentioned any time line for the sports car. However Skoda has previously said its EV range will grow to five models, catering to various segments, by 2025. Hence, the arrival of sports car is expected as the fifth and last model.
The electric car range of the Skoda is expected to roll on with an all-electric version of the Citigo in 2019. This is expected to follow a production version of the Vision E SUV concept in 2020. Another SUV model, most probably all electric Kodiaq, is tipped to be the next model in the pipeline. All these cars are expected to be based on the Modular Electrification Toolkit (MEB) modular platform specifically designed for electric cars by Skoda's parent firm Volkswagen.
