Congress president Sonia Gandhi has condoled the death of six passengers who died in a train accident in Anantapur district of Andhra Pradesh on Monday.
"I am shocked and anguished over the Bengaluru-Nanded Express tragedy and extend my condolences to the families of the deceased," Gandhi said in her message on Monday.
She said she hoped adequate relief and rescue work was being undertaken at the accident site.
Gandhi also conveyed her deep condolences to the family of Congress MLA A Venkatesh Naik, who was also killed in the accident. Naik was an MLA from Devadurga reserved assembly segment in Raichur district of Karnataka.
At least six people, including the Congress legislator, were killed and 20 others injured when a truck hit a coach of a moving train near Penukonda in Andhra Pradesh in the early hours of Monday.
