Akshay Kumar's movie "Singh Is Bliing" (SIB) has recorded the second highest opening of 2015 and highest ever for the Bollywood actor.
Akshay's "Brothers" which was released on 14 August recorded Rs 15.2 crore, which became his highest opener, but now "Singh Is Bliing" has shattered that record with its Rs 20 crore opening day box office collection.
"#SinghIsBliing has a SPECTACULAR start... Emerges Akshay Kumar's BIGGEST opener... Fri ₹ 20.67 cr. India biz," trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted.
"Singh Is Bliing" is Akshay's fourth film of the year and interestingly all the films, including "Baby", "Gabbar Is Back" and "Brothers", are among the top 10 highest openers.
However, despite releasing on a Gandhi Jayanti holiday, the film has failed to beat the record of Salman Khan's "Bajrangi Bhaijaan" opening day box office. "Singh Is Bliing" now rests with the second highest opener of 2015 title at the box office.
The comedy entertainer directed by Prabhudeva opened to good occupancy, especially in the North belt. In North circuits, the film opened to better occupancies compared to Salman's "Bajrangi Bhaijaan", but the box office collection was comparatively lower in South circuits due to Ilayathalapathy Vijay's "Puli".
Akshay's "Singh Is Bliing" has managed to put up a good show at the box office. But when the first day business is compared to 2014 and 2013's releases, Akshay's film scored very less.
Hrithik Roshan's "Bang Bang", which was released in 2014, minted Rs 27.54 crore on 2 October, 2014, i.e., its opening day, while Ranbir Kapoor's "Besharam", which was released in 2013, minted Rs 21.5 crore and compared to them, Akshay's movie "Singh Is Bliing" raked in only Rs 20 crore.
Nevertheless, "Singh Is Bliing" has become Akshay's biggest opener by beating "Brothers" and his 2012 blockbuster film "Rowdy Rathore" record by approximately 30%.
Directed by Prabhudeva, the film features ensemble cast, including Akshay, Amy Jackson, Kay Kay Menon, Lara Datta, Pradeep Rawat, Anil Mange, Rati Agnihotri, Yograj Singh and Kunal Kapoor among others.
