Simmba (Simba) vs Temper box office collection: Ranveer Singh achieves what Jr NTR could not

Jr NTR's Temper could attain its hit status in its lifetime, but its Hindi remake - Simmba (Simba) achieved it in just 5 days with its collection reaching Rs 124.54 crore nett at the domestic box office.

Temper was one of the most hyped Telugu movies of 2015 and a lot of aspects including Jr NTR's six-pack abs had raised a lot of curiosity and expectations from the movie. The hysteria surrounding it helped the film get massive opening at the worldwide box office and set new benchmarks. 

The Puri Jagannadh directorial received mixed response from the viewers and the word of mouth took a toll on its collection on the following days. Despite all, Temper managed to cross Rs 50 crore gross mark in its opening week, but its overall business dropped considerably in the following weeks. The movie ended up collecting Rs 75 crore gross at the worldwide box office in its lifetime.

Temper's worldwide theatrical rights were sold for a whopping price of Rs 42.40 crore and it earned Rs 43.10 crore for its global distributors. The movie became one of the average grossers of the year. The film incurred a small amount of losses to a few distributors, while others walked home with some profit share.

The trend in the Indian cinema is that hit movies are remade in other languages. Many in B-Town were surprised, when Rohit Shetty announced to remake an average grosser Temper in Hindi. But the director tweaked certain aspects in the movie and repackaged it in Simmba to suit the tastes of Hindi speaking audience.

Simmba, which was released in a record number of screens on December 28, was successful in impressing the viewers and made superb collection at the worldwide box office on the first day. The Ranveer Singh and Sara Ali Khan starrer went to fetch the lifetime numbers of Temper in just two days.

Simmba has collected over Rs 200 crore gross at the worldwide box office in just five days. The movie has already returned the 100 percent investments of most of the distributors besides fetching them small profit shares. The film will become another blockbuster film of 2018 with its collection in the coming days.

The huge response has proved that Rohit Shetty is a real magician and he was right, when he decided to remake an average grosser film like Temper. He has shown what the original version lacked and the reasons for its failure at the box office. He has made the Telugu film industry realize its mistakes in handling the subject of the film.
