"Jigarthanda" went on floors on 12 June 2013 and came to an end on 12 November 2013. Initially, there were many speculations regarding the casting of the film. Later the actress confirmed the news saying that she will play the role of an 'Idli' seller in Madurai. Then the director confirmed casting Simha as a gangster in the film.
"I decided not to cast anyone who we thought was an obvious choice for the role, including Vijay Sethupathi. After seeing his performance in 'Neram,' in which Bobby played a gangster, we thought that if we do a complete makeover, he could crack it," said Karthik Subbaraj to The Hindu about casting Simhaa in the film.
The film will also see Karunakaran, Guru Somasundaram, Prathap Pothen, Soundara Raja and Vinodhini in lead roles. The film was also listed among the top five Indian films to see in 2014 by Forbes India.
"Jigarthanda" has nine songs and are composed by Santhosh Narayanan. He had also done the music for Subbaraj's earlier film "Pizza." The music of the film was released on 1 March 2014. Narayanan was praised for his work and the songs were accepted positively by listeners and critics.
"Santhosh Narayanan shows, yet again, that he is one of those composers to watch out for — both for his new sounds and tunes. Jigarthanda is another worthy addition," said Times of India about the songs of the film.
The stunt of the film is mastered by Billa Jagan and the choreography is done by Baskar. The sound of the film is done jointly by Vishnu Govind and Sree Sankar. The cinematography is handled by Gavemic U Ary. The script is done by Subbaraj and is jointly produced by S Karthiresan and Shri Meenakshi Creations.
