It turned out to be a bloody Wednesday in Kashmir valley as the militants killed four Jammu and Kashmir Police personnel at Bongam village in South Kashmir. They were attacked when they went to repair a police vehicle.
The deceased have been identified as constable Ishfaq Ahmad Mir, constable Javaid Ahmad Bhat, constable Mohammad Iqbal Mir and SPO Adil Manzoor Bhat.
While two died on the spot, the others succumbed to injuries at District Hospital. According to sources, the militants decamped with three AK-47 from the policemen. The police have sealed the entire region and are on a manhunt to nab the militants.
Jaish-e-Muhammad and Hizbul Mujahideen have claimed joint responsibility of the attack. The militants have also uploaded a picture of the three snatched weapons on social media with a watermark of Hamza Hizbi.
The attack and abduction incidents of local policemen by militants have seen a surge in the past one year.
