Three Hizbul Mujahideen militants were killed in a gunfight with the security forces in Shopian district of Jammu & Kashmir district on Thursday, say media reports.
The operation was carried out jointly by the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Rashtriya Rifles.
Two of them have been identified as Irshad Ahmad from Manzimpara and Adil Ahmad Khanday from Imam Sahab. The third militant is yet to be identified.
"After they were challenged to surrender, militants resorted to indiscriminate firing at the security forces triggering the gunfight," IANS quoted the officer as saying.
The guerillas, who had taken shelter in an apple orchard, were surrounded by security forces after they received specific information about their presence.
