Shiv Sena women wing President Aarti Borkar was hacked to death in Nagpur on Friday evening. Aarti was on her way to a restaurant with her husband when she was attacked with sharp weapons. Aarti's body reportedly has stab wounds.
The incident took place at around 9.30 pm near Lalganj area in North Nagpur, the local police said.
A group of four to five people attacked Aarti and her husband, Anil Borkar, in a busy Lalganj area. While Aarti died on the spot, Anil was seriously injured in the attack.
Anil was immediately rushed to a nearby government run Mayo Medical College and Hospital, where he is currently being treated.
The murderers tried to escape from the spot, but locals managed to catch hold of one of them. Later, they handed over the culprit to the local PanchpaoIi police.
Following the murder, hundreds of Shiv Sena activists gathered near the police station to protest again the murder. They also shouted slogans against police and asked for immediate arrests of the people involved in the case, Hindustan Times reported.
