Shiv Sena leader Vasudev Nambiar has been arrested for allegedly raping a 15-year-old girl, who has recently delivered a premature baby at a hospital on the outskirts of Mumbai.
Nambiar, who is the deputy president of the party, was arrested on Friday and presented before a local magistrate, who has ordered to take him into judicial custody until 11 September, The Indian Express reported.
The girl, who was allegedly being sexually molested for the past many months, gave birth to a premature boy recently at a hospital in Mira Road, in Thane district. The hospital authorities reportedly filed a complaint regarding the issue on Thursday.
On Friday, the Kashimira police arrested Nambiar on charges of rape under IPC section 376, for criminal intimidation under IPC section 506 and under section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act.
The girl was a class nine student at a school run by Nambiar, who used to pick her up from the school on the pretext of visiting a temple run by him in Kashimira township of Thane.
He used to sexually assault repeatedly her at a place in Mira village.
This began in January and continued for months but the girl's parents came to know about the incident only when she became pregnant, Zee News reported.
The girl told the police that Nambiar had threatened her with dire consequences if she disclosing about her pregnancy to anyone.
