Racing against time, Mumbai police is toiling round-the-clock to gather more evidence and crack the motive behind Sheena Bora's murder as the three main accused are due to be produced before a court here to seek an extension of their remand on Monday.
The accused trio – Indrani Mukherjea, her ex-husband Sanjeev Khanna and her former driver Shyamvar Rai – were sent to police custody on Saturday till September 7.
Continuing their probe, the investigators on Sunday took Indrani to her home in Worli and a place in Bandra in a bid to recreate the crime sequence and conspiracy hatched over three years ago.
Police have alleged that it was on April 24, 2012 evening when Indrani and Khanna had picked up Sheena from a spot near Bandra in the vehicle driven by Rai.
They drove to some quiet bylanes of Bandra where Sheena was allegedly strangulated and the car was later taken to then media tycoon Peter Mukherjea's bungalow garage in Marlow Housing Society in Worli.
Later they took it to an isolated spot near Gagode village in Raigad, burnt and disposed off the body.
Besides recreating the crime sequence that night, police are also seeking to probe at whose behest the crime spot in Gagode was selected and why.
Police have already recovered the car used in that night's macabre operation which belonged to a third party.
The investigators have also said that they have matched Sheena's profile with the digital superimposition on the skull recovered from the Gagode forests.
They await the DNA and forensic test reports – expected on Monday, to further consolidate and boost their case.
Sheena's body was recovered on May 23, 2012, but the lid came off the murder after an anonymous tip-off was received by Mumbai police a few weeks ago.
