Congress MP Shashi Tharoor on Monday slammed a TV report -- claiming that his wife Sunanda Pushkar's body was moved after her death -- and called it "misrepresentations and outright lies".
The reports appearing on a television claimed Sunanda's body was moved from one place to another at Leela Palace Hotel in New Delhi. Republic TV aired 19 alleged telephonic conversation between a correspondent and a close aide of Tharoor, who was present at the hotel.
The channel claimed that the Congress leader had re-visited the hotel after leaving it at 6:30 am, which he had "concealed" before investigating agencies.
Tharoor however said that he was angered that "someone would exploit a human tragedy for personal gain".
"Exasperating farrago of distortions, misrepresentations and outright lies being broadcast by an unprincipled showman masquerading as a journalist," Tharoor said in a Facebook post on Monday night.
"I am angered that someone would exploit a human tragedy for personal gain and TRPs. I challenge him to prove his false claims in a court of law," the former UN diplomat said.
The TV report also claimed that Sunanda's body was moved from room No. 307 to 345 of Leela, alleging that the murder scene and the victim's body was tampered with before the investigation.
Delhi police chief Amulya Patna said that the investigation of the case is ongoing. He declined to comment further. The channel had claimed that Pushkar's clothes were removed from the hotel and that she was allegedly prevented from speaking with the media before the incident.
Tharoor's wife Sunanda Pushkar was found dead at a suite in a five star hotel in South Delhi on the night of January 17, 2014. She was found dead under mysterious circumstances, a day after she had a spat with Pakistani journalist Mehr Tarar on Twitter.
